Summer Stuff

Some of my favorites for summer

I haven’t posted about beauty in a while, so I thought today should be the day πŸ™‚

I’ll just making a quick list with descriptions / review and you can let me know in the comments if you want to hear more.

Diorskin Nude BB Cream (001) –Β So pretty and natural with very light coverage. It gives a subtle but beautiful glow. If you take a lot of pictures though be warned: there’s a tiny bit of flashback.

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder (01) –Β Beautiful highlight! I considered the Becca highlight at first (everyone is raving about it), but this is much more subtle and avoids that overly shiny look. It makes you glow, but in a much less obvious way. It stays the whole day too.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat (1) – I’m sure you can notice by now that I love highlighting things πŸ™‚ This is such a cult favorite. I love it, and I’m considering getting it in a darker shade too as a very subtle contour.

Tarte Tarteguard SPF 30 –Β This is not the most exciting thing ever, but sunscreen is so important! It’s very liquid, smells (literally) like a Caribbean island, and applies beautifully. It’s not shiny at all. As a strange bonus, it seems to also smooth everything out and act like a primer (?). Not complaining though.

Marc Jacobs Daisy – Smells like summer!

Christopher Kane for Nars Eyeshadow Duo (Parallel Universe) – So so pretty. Love at first swatch! The colors look a bit strange, but they’re so subtle and absolutely gorgeous. After all, this is Christopher Kane: the man who turns neon pink into a neutral. I’ll probably have used this up by the end of the summer.

Here’s a better look at it:

Bite Beauty Butter Cream Lipstick (Heather) –Β Very pretty coral shade. Slight drawback: the way it’s cut makes it a bit awkward to apply sometimes.

Eyeliners:

Mac Powerpoint Eye Pencil (Bordeauxline) –Β Perfect shade if you have green eyes.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye PencilΒ (Sabbath) – LOVE. I want every single color.

Maybelline Eyestudio Master DramaΒ (Bold Brown) – Again, if you have green eyes, this is your new best friend.

NYX Slide On, Glide On.. (Golden Bronze) – This is made for summer. Very natural.

That’s it! As I’m sure you can tell, I’m into super natural and glowing makeup.

Nanette Lepore NYFW Spring 2015

Fashion week is officially over as of Thursday. This makes me so sad, especially since I’m not one of the people who’s jetting over to Paris and London to review the next collections. But one day I will be! I’m keeping my fingers crossed guys.

Before the show started, the man sitting across from me in the first row – right next to the runway entrance – introduced himself to me. He was Nanette Lepore’s husband! He was so sweet, and very excited about the collection.

Lepore’s collection was like a straight shot of sunny, beachy fun. The tone was laid-back, cheerful, and carefree. Even the models were laughing and dancing behind the scenes (yes, I could see this from my seat)! The music was amazing, and you could feel the energy in the atmosphere. It perfectly captured that cool bohemian mood.

Mellow yellow, one of the standout shades for Spring 2015, was combined with pretty pastels and some prints evoking Southern France:

The heels add some edge. There were two or three swimwear pieces but I think that this one stood out most of all. It’s a one-piece, but it’s still sexy in a careless kind of way.

2

Look at how this flows. French stripes with a non-French silhouette.

This look is one of my favorites. I love how it almost looks like sleepwear.

And yes, the Birkenstock is here to stay whether you hate it or love it.

I think that this picture captures the overall mood very well:

1Excuse the head of that person in part of the picture – at least it’s the head of somebody related to Lepore though. And I’m in love with those pants.

Lepore’s brother and niece led the final lap in an energizing conga line. So fun! It’s great to see a designer with a sense of humor.

And… NYFW Begins!

I know, I know, there really is no *official* beginning of NY Fashion Week, but I like to think that today is the day. Designers, especially lesser known ones, have already begun to present so it’s more like NY Fashion Fortnight, but that doesn’t have quite the ring, does it?

Let me make a few brief predictions about what we’ll be seeing for Spring 2015:

  • Luxurious simplicity.
  • Prints: fun prints, wild prints, and subdued prints.
  • Pastels (again) with a spot of fuchsia or purple. For some reason I cannot visualize neons for the next spring season.
  • Flat(ish) shoes.
  • The revival of the stylish backpack.
  • A slightly grunge vibe. Come on, with Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent, this is basically a 100% certainty.

There you go, that’s my vision for next spring / summer. Time, and Vogue, will tell if I’m correct.

Now I just want to write a few sentences about Band of Outsiders’ Spring 2015 collection because I am completely obsessed with it.

It opened with this look:

As soon as I saw this I already got excited for Spring. Perfect skirt? Check. Awesome shoes? Check. Wear-everywhere shirt? Check. The cool hat, though slightly unwearable, is the icing on top.

The collection continued with its unique grungy / laid-back / deconstructed vibe:

Reminds me just a tiny bit of Marc Jacobs Spring 2014. The shoes here are to die for as well.

This look is almost preppy, but I love how laid-back it is while still looking so put-together.

My verdict: Band of Outsiders nailed it, especially with the shoes. They have captured that attitude most people only dream of possessing and I’m sure this will make them a huge hit next spring.
